Álava's climbing schools have turned out climbers that stand out amongst the world's best. Without reaching such heights, enthusiasts can find in the province peaks of medium and low difficulty, as classified by the Basque Mountaineering Federation. Prominent locations are Peña Karria ("Cuadrilla" of Añana), Sierra Salvada ("Cuadrilla" of Ayala), Oro ("Cuadrilla" of Zuia), and especially, Egino ("Cuadrilla" of Salvatierra).

In the Álava Mountains it is worth highlighting Aitzulo in Atauri, the Piérola area in Santa Cruz de Campezo, Atxartea in Apellániz, Peñones in Antoñana, etc.
