n 1164, Sancho VI of Navarra, “the Wise”, granted special rights to the population of Laguardia. Its medieval quarter and walls (which contained as many as 5 gates), have been restored. Under the streets of the town, there lies an extraordinary secret: the entire subsoil of the town is riddled with ancient wineries or "caves", excavated underneath the houses and streets, at a depth of 6 m. Take a walk around its narrow streets and you will find the Plaza Mayor and the ancestral home of the fable writer, Félix María Samaniego, was born. Don't miss the church of Santa María de los Reyes, with its spectacular polychrome portico, or the church of San Juan Bautista.
